With the Seattle Sounders fielding one of the most depleted lineups imaginable and trailing FC Cincinnati on Saturday, Fabrizio Romano decided to drop a bombshell.

Romano reports (with Tom Bogert subsequently confirming) that Seattle have reached an agreement with Sporting Kansas City, aka the Club of Professional Wrestling Enthusiasts, to acquire star striker Dejan Joveljić, with the 27-year-old Serbian set to join the Sounders in a blockbuster intra-MLS move. The deal reportedly includes a $6 million fee.

According to Niko Moreno, Seattle are accommodating the move by agreeing to a 2.5-year contract extension with Albert Rusnák, freeing up his Designated Player spot.

Needless to say, this is a massive development. Seattle have spent the last two months mired in probably the worst run of form in club history, with injuries piling up, losses mounting, and an increasingly frustrated fan base openly questioning whether ownership was willing to spend what it takes to turn things around.

Now, they're finally linked to a No. 9. And this isn't just any striker they're reportedly bringing in. Joveljić is about as proven a No. 9 as you could realistically find within MLS.

After originally breaking out as one of the league's top goal-scorers during the LA Galaxy's MLS Cup-winning campaign in 2024 when he put up 15g/6a, Joveljić carried over his consistency after making a blockbuster move to Sporting KC ahead of the 2025 season. He racked up 18 goals last year and has bagged eight more so far in 2026.

Sounders fans should remember one of those particularly well: Joveljić scored the 85th-minute game-winner that knocked Seattle out of the Western Conference playoffs in 2024 and sent the Galaxy to that ultimately victorious MLS Cup.

Assuming this gets over the line, would Joveljić solve every problem for a Sounders team that's on a record-breaking run of futility? No. But at a time when the team has been spiraling, and the vibes around the club have been about as bad as they've been in years, a move like this at least gives both the team and the fanbase some badly needed juice.
